2016 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon- 100 Points

I am delighted to offer the 100 point scoring 2016 vintage of the Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon in original cases and magnums at the best prices on the market.

Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the pre-prohibition Victorian home depicted on the wine label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910 and it was acquired by Mary and Jack Novak in 1972. Mary released Spottswoode’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding.

Today, Mary’s daughter Beth Novak Milliken manages the winery, and daughter Lindy Novak serves as the winery’s Marketing Ambassador. Every year Spottswoode releases an Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and an Estate Sauvignon Blanc in honor of founder, Mary Novak. In addition, Spottswoode produces a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon called Lyndenhurst, a dual-appellation Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, and two limited-production wines for club members only (Spottswoode Estate “Mary’s Block” Sauvignon Blanc and Field Book Syrah). The Novak family is committed to producing wines with integrity that faithfully reflect their grape origins, and Spottswoode wines are especially known for their refined elegance, balance, and classic structure.

The 2016 vintage is probably one of the best wines ever made by this illustrious winery. And that really is saying something when you look at their back catalogue! It was given a perfect score by both Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) and Jeb Dunnuck and this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase these incredible wines in magnums before they become impossible to find.

    2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode
GBP 1080 IB per case of 6x75cl (3 cases available)
GBP 400 IB per 150cl Magnum (14 available)
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is still very tight and youthful, slowly unfurling to reveal a multifaceted wine with tons of black, blue and red fruit sparks—plums, cherries, black currants and red currants—with dark chocolate, cedar chest, black tea and red roses in the background plus wafts of pencil lead and prosciutto. Medium-bodied and firmly textured by superbly ripe, grainy tannins, it has a fantastic core of intense, complex layers, finishing on an edifying mineral note. Wow! 100 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, Oct 2018

Also perfect, yet in a very different style, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate can be thought of as mix of the 2010 and 2015. Classic Cabernet notes of green tobacco, pure cassis, sappy flowers, crushed stone, and cedar all emerge from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, with a layered, multi-dimensional texture, building tannins, and one blockbuster of a finish. This continues to show incredibly consistency and I’ve been lucky enough to have multiple bottles, all of which have topped out my scale. This is unquestionably a legendary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that will hit maturity in about a decade or so and keep for 40-50 years.100 points Jeb Dunnuck, May 2021
