    2019 Mischief and Mayhem

Mischief and Mayhem was started as a micro négociant in 2003, based in the village of Aloxe-Corton.

Established by Brits Michael Ragg and Fiona Traill-Stevenson after working for Berry Bros & Rudd wine merchants in London, they decided to establish their own négociant business based on the substantial number of connections they have to individual growers, enabling them to gain access to some of the finest grapes in the region.

The company achieved full domaine status in 2012 with the purchase of a small plot in Aloxe-Corton Les Caillettes. An additional vineyard in Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru Aux Gravains was added to the portfolio in 2013 and more recently, a small but exceptional site in Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Referts. The domaine are also engaged in a renovation programme, creating a new winery and barrel cellars in Aloxe-Corton.

Their process is very much focussed on quality with regular vineyard inspections to determine vine health and vineyard development through the growing season and advocate sustainable viticulture with low yields and hand harvesting. The winery policy is also minimally interventionist with only a small use of oak, with the emphasis being placed on truly capturing the terroir of the region.

This is very much a domaine and négociant business on the rise and whilst there is little in the way available for scores this is a domaine that is not short of praise. We are pleased to offer a selection of their fantastic releases from their cellars.

We are pleased to offer a fantastic selection of their 2018 vintage - Please note Grand Cru wines are tied 1:2 with village wines and 1:1 with Premier Cru wines.

On the palate the wine is full and powerful. Extremely youthful but evidently complex, dense, firm and with a great core of saline, rocky minerality. Surprisingly supple and round, yet plenty of grip and structure. Terrific acidity and texture, reflected by the beautiful citric fruit and creamy elements to the wine. The epitome of richness, without heaviness. A classic Corton-Charlemagne.
