The Latour family are long established in Burgundy's wine trade. They began as vine growers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1760s and went on to establish today's business, Maison Louis Latour, in 1797. Today they are one of the region's most famous names, creating wines from their own 50 hectare domaine in the Côte d'Or and from grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business, however the Village of Aloxe Corton is still seen very much as the Domaine’s home.
The Latour family have been proprietors of a part of Romanée-Saint-Vivant since December 1898. "Les Quatre Journaux" is a magnificent plot of land situated at the South-West of Romanée Saint Vivant, a few meters from the Romanée-Conti vineyard. A "Journal" is an old Burgundian measurement corresponding to approximately 0.4 hectares (34,28 ares). Even though the Latours' initial purchase carried the entirety of the plot, half of it was sold some years later. Today Maison Louis Latour owns 0.8 hectares of Romanée-Saint-Vivant. It offers a marvellously aromatic wine, with a velvety texture which culminates in a persistent and powerful finish in the mouth.
Romanée-Saint-Vivant "Les Quatre Journaux" is undoubtably one of Louis Latour’s greatest red wines and, although it will admittedly never be as good as the ones made by the likes of DRC and Leroy, this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a wine made with grapes from the same illustrious vineyard at a fraction of the price of those wines.

This is like staring into an abyss, but being overwhelmed with joy. The essence of fine pinot noir and of Burgundy, which you don’t need to be any kind of expert to appreciate. Enormously concentrated, but so graceful, this makes you want to forget everything else you are supposed to be doing. Lean back and let yourself be overwhelmed.
